Hawaii is one of the most beautiful tropical locations in the country. The islands are filled with gardens, palm trees, beautiful beaches and plenty of entertaining activities. Planning a Hawaiian vacation can be as simple as booking a room in one of the five star Kapaa hotels.

Kapaa is located on the island of Kauai, geologically the oldest island in the Hawaiian chain. The island is 562 square miles in size, making it the fourth largest island of Hawaii. This island is also called Garden Isle because it holds Waimea Canyon State Park.

The state park is also called the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. It has a large canyon that is around 10 miles long and 3,000 feet deep. The canyon was formed on the western part of the island by the Waimea River and the extensive rainfall this area of the island received. Like the other islands that make up Hawaii, Kauai sits on top of a large volcano that rose from the ocean floor. Some of the lava dates back five million years and around four million years ago, part of the island collapsed, which helped to form the canyon in the park. The park sits on just under 2,000 acres and many tourists enjoy visiting here for the wilderness areas and hiking trails.

Koke'e State Park is just 18 miles up the road from Wimea Canyon State Park. Koke'e includes a museum that gives visitors a better idea of what the weather and vegetation in the area is like throughout the year. The park also has a lodge for feed and gifts. The main attractions in this park are the wonderful trails, the native forest birds, the natural vegetation and the views from the cliffs. The park sits on a plateau and the end of the area looks out over Kalalau Valley, the backdrop of a short story written by Jack London.

When visiting any tropical location, you will most likely want to spend plenty of time on the beach and in the water. There are around 20 public beaches on the island of Kauai and four of them are very close to Kappa. Kealia Beach is a long, sandy span with plenty of beach activities. When the water is calm, this beach is one of the best places for families to visit. Just down the road, Wailua Beach gives visitors great sunrise views. This beach has murky waters but you can swim, surf, fish, body board and take part in plenty more activities. Lydgate Beach Park is the next beach along the shore. If you want to see the life that lives under the ocean, snorkeling is very good in this location. The water is normally calm and there are artificial ponds along this beach as well, which means you can swim pretty much any time of the day. This area also has a large grass field if you want to have a picnic, fly a kite or throw a frisbee around.

If you ever tire of the beach, you can see a different water source on the island by paddling a kayak up the Wailua River. You will get a closer look at the lush rainforest that sits in the area as well as beautiful waterfalls and wildlife. The journey takes just a few hours but the adventure will be something you will remember for a lifetime.

Since Hawaii has beautiful weather all year round, it is a wonderful place to play golf. Golfing in tropical areas can be challenging and fun but rather costly. The Wailua Golf Course in Kappa, however, costs less than $20 per round and you can enjoy some of the most beautiful views in the world while you chase your ball around the course.

Five star Kapaa hotels have spacious condo-like rooms that are just moments from some of the top area attractions. You will have access to the on-site spa services, several dining options and lovely tropical gardens at the hotel. The staff at the five star Kapaa hotels can direct you to scuba rental businesses, whale watching locations and snorkeling wonders just minutes from your room. When you are ready to really relax, you can enjoy the outdoor pool, children's area, oceanfront jacuzzi and beachside hammocks at the five star Kapaa hotels.
